Sing "If We Sleep Together Would You Be My Friend Forever" to the night

Christina got a hold of me and asked if I wanted to go for coffee and I obliged. I biked to Tim Horton's even though it was raining. We sat and talked about everything for two hours as we dried off. Catching up is always fun with Christina.

She asked me if I wanted to swing though she already knew the answer. She walked and I rode to the park slowly, all the while enjoying the misting of the late April evening. There was what Christina called an ocean beneath the swings. She had boots to keep her feet dry, but I was not so lucky. She swang (her word not mine) and I balanced along the wooden beam that separates the swing sets from the grass. As I walked we sang Mirah and Belle & Sebastian and Sufjan Stevens to the night.

When she alighted from the swing she was ankle deep in water, but her feet were warm in second-hand boots. As I walked and sang I took earthworms from rocks and placed them more comfortably on the grass. I retold the story I read to my nieces on my birthday and Christina and I danced on the wooden beam as the rain swelled around us.

We walked around in the dark and found ourselves at the entrance to the forest, the entire park looks different from that place at that time. It is a shame that it goes unnoticed so often.

It was very late and very dark, so I accompanied Christina home. We sang Mirah most of the way, and I avoided crushing the worms that lay on the sidewalk.

When I finally arrived home every part of me was wet, I dried off in my room, the light bulb had burned out yesterday and I didn't bother to replace it.

It was wonderful.

Inspired

I just thought I would share some songs circa the 90s that shaped me at one point in my life, most of them are now long gone but impressions remain.

I am pretty sure this playlist proves I was a girl in the 1990's

Meet Gloria

I stole a bag of photos of a girl once.
They were for sale, and I didn't like that.
So I took them.

She needed love, she needed to be remembered.
I was going to try,
try to make up for all my other failures by knowing that girl.

Her name is Gloria, she was 6 in 1952.
She took a photo in 1966 and I haven't seen her since.

I have met her parents, her friends, her cat.
We have been on vacation, and spent Christmas morning together.
We go on elaborate adventures and watch little girls cry.

That is Gloria on the left, our friend Monica on the right.
We were gypsy thieves for Hallowe'en in 1957.
We watched Audrey Hepburn movies and drank Milkshakes all afternoon that day.
Then Mrs. Lorraine gave us candy apples and told us not to talk to strangers.

Gloria's bag ripped and Monica tripped over her too-long dress.
We looked even more like gypsies when we came home.
Monica said that Gloria stole all her orange suckers
(it was really her brother Matty).
Gloria and I never heard from her again.

There were twenty-three photos in all.
I gave two away, they needed something I couldn't give them.

Gloria is a good friend of mine, the best you may say.

Would-be Children Stories

Alysong came over this evening, I haven't seen her in what feels like ages. We didn't know what we wanted to do, so we took pictures, well mostly she took pictures of me.

I packed my bag with goodies and we headed out into the forest

We then went back to my house to warm up. I asked Aly to paint my face, but in a non-representation sort of way. I wanted to be a canvas, not a model.

This post seems very self-indulgent, and I am sorry. I am not vain enough to post 19 pictures of myself, but I am impressed enough to show 19 pictures of my friends art.

Until next time, when I hopefully have something new and exciting for y'all!

Advice is a form of Nostalgia

I went digging through old albums for photos of me from decades since passed. I can't help but laugh at some.

7.9033

I got another roll of film developed, I had to pay this time. It was bound to catch up with me eventually.

The first set is pictures of Christina Bell and I on James Street North, the others are pictures of my nieces and nephew I took while babysitting yesterday.
